“Development of universally applicable flow-optimising centring aids to increase the performance of coaxial geothermal probes – STROP”

was funded by the Free State of Thuringia under the funding programme “Funding for Research, Technology and Innovation (FTI)/Company-specific Research and Development Projects (FE)” and financially supported by the European Union under the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

The project involves the development of flow-optimising centring aids (SOZH) that can be used universally in coaxial geothermal probes (EWS). These are intended to lead to a significant increase in performance in coaxial EWS in two ways by ensuring bivalent optimisation of the flow in the outer annular gap. The flow is to be influenced in such a way that turbulent flow develops on the outside at the transition to the surrounding ground and laminar flow on the inside at the transition to the central pipe. The aim of the project is that commercially available coaxial probes (new installations and, in particular, retrofitting existing systems) can be easily and quickly upgraded or retrofitted and that the SOZH enables a performance increase of at least 25%.
